Engineering

AI assistant trained on 12 years of technical specifications and drawings.

A specialist engineering practice was losing hours a week to the same technical questions. We built an internal AI assistant grounded in their own documents.

Headline metric
24/7 knowledge

The challenge

Twelve years of specifications, drawings and design notes sat across shared drives, email and a legacy DMS. Only a handful of senior engineers knew where to look.

The same technical questions were answered again and again. Junior engineers waited hours — sometimes days — for a routine reference.

Any AI approach had to be private, auditable, and never invent an answer.

What we did
  1. 01

    Consolidated the knowledge base

We indexed 12 years of documents into a private, permissioned knowledge base with clear provenance — every answer traces back to a source document.

  2. 02

    Purpose-built assistant, not a chatbot

The assistant is tuned to the firm's own vocabulary and refuses to answer without a supporting reference. Human sign-off remains mandatory for anything that leaves the practice.

  3. 03

    Embedded in day-to-day tools

Engineers access it from the tools they already use. No new tab, no new login, no behaviour change to adopt it.

The outcome
24/7 access to the practice's own knowledge
  • Routine technical lookups fell from hours to seconds.
  • Senior engineers reclaimed time for design work, not repeated Q&A.
  • Every answer is traceable to a source document the firm already owns.
